Our lettuce heads and greens program are what carry the bulk of the workload on our farm. Here, we see the lettuce beds in their various stages of development.
If you haven’t discovered Asian Greens Mixes (what often gets referred to as Spring Mix) make sure you stop by our next market to pick up your first bag. Explosive flavour from Golden Frills and Ruby Streaks held in check by the mild and sweet Mizuna, our Spring Mix automatically makes your salad more luxurious in flavour alone. And it’s off the health charts good for you, packing a punch with a slew of nutrients–immune boosting vitamin C, folate, iron, vitamin E, calcium, potassium–if you need a lift. Many of our customers love combining our Salad Mix with our Spring Mix for the best salad result.
This variety of Spanish onions are our favourite for storage. The onions have a firm shell, are slow to sprout, and hold firm for a very long period of time. Their golden yellow glow makes them a favourite to put on display with squash and garlic when we host dinners.
Storage: Excellent; room temp or below and dark. Flavour: Strong and consistent. Available: After Sept 1.
I didn’t believe in a thing called “Fresh Onions” until I tasted the sweet and mild Ailsa Craig. Specifically when these are pulled as fresh onions, they will convert you on the spot. We found these onions to be so good, we were actually eating them fresh sliced and uncooked as we prepped them for use on summer sandwiches.
Storage: Short / Fresh (vegetable drawer). Taste: Sweet and Mild, best when fresh. Availability: After July 1.
Rover Round Red Radish
One of the most difficult things to do with radish is to provide a consistent product. They’re fickle about water, they’re fickle about weeds, and we’re fickle about giving you the best. So, when we discovered the Rover variety of round red radish, we were as pleasantly surprised as you were. Sturdy tops, consistent bulbs, and great crisp flavour make this a great handheld snack.
